Dear Pinksters!

Today’s post is about: Support groups. As I was waiting in the waiting room waiting to see my surgical oncologist for the first time, I got involved in a conversation with one of her patient’s who was also…waiting.

She gave me some advice that I will always remember. She said that if I received a breast cancer diagnosis that the best thing that I could do is tell everybody I knew. There is no such thing as having ‘too much support.’ That was in November of 2011. She was right. Studies have shown that people who participate in support groups survive longer and are generally healthier emotionally.

I am blessed to be a member of three support groups for women.

1. The Relief Society which is the largest support group for women who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

2. The breast cancer sisterhood. A few months after my diagnosis, I received an email from the nurse who assisted with the biopsies that led to my breast cancer diagnosis. At the time, I was riding an emotional roller-coaster and it was pretty close to the bottom. I ‘phoned a friend,’ a sister survivor and asked her what they would tell me at a support group that I didn’t already know. She said: It’s not what they will tell you, it is HOW they will tell you! They speak your language because they have been where you are and they understand better than your friends who have not had that experience. She was right.

3. I became an active member of an incredible Facebook support group called: Flat and Fabulous. WE are a group of almost two thousand women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and had mastectomies. Most of us chose NOT to have reconstructive surgery. Some women had reconstructive surgery and for various reasons chose to deconstruct. Our primary purpose is to empower women to become fabulous after having so much of our iden-titty taken away.  If you would like to watch a fun video about the ‘benefits of being boob-less, check out my Toastmasters Award-Winning video by clicking here.

Thanks to support groups, pink no longer stinks! If you need help, find a support group near you, on Facebook or send me a message. You don’t have to travel this journey alone.

There are a lot of support groups for people who are sick, I would like to see more support groups created for people who want to stay well. That is one of the many reasons I am choosing to focus on disease prevention. I want the Pinkster support group to offer you easy ways to create a healthy lifestyle that will work for you!

Have you attended support groups? Have you felt supported? Please share your experience in the comments. Thank you very much AND…

Enjoy your day!

Chris

Nothing to Hide!

Good afternoon dear sisters!

I know it has been awhile since I posted, but I had to share a few of my ‘reflections’ as I am fast approaching my 5 year ‘cancerversary.’

My journey with breast cancer began on October 19, 2011. I was 47 years young. All I can say is…TIME FLIES!

Everybody kept telling me that they couldn’t imagine what it was like to be diagnosed with breast cancer. The truth is NOBODY CAN unless they or one of their loved ones hears those words: You have breast cancer! If you would like to read the rest of my story, click here.

Fast forward to today: After taking a drug for 19 months to prevent recurrence, (that made my life miserable and believing that NOBODY ever received a breast cancer diagnosis because they DIDN’T HAVE enough prescription drugs in their bodies), I did my homework and researched alternative remedies. Within a few months of adding a few supplements to my daily routine and modifying my diet…for the most part), my health improved by 50%!

I believed I could do better and began my journey to investigating essential oils. (I have another blog post that shares those details…) I FOUND MY MISSING PUZZLE PIECE!

Within a few months, my physical health improved by 90%! I began teaching classes in my home and to a few friends that live close by. A few of them are beginning their journey towards physical AND financial healing!

In an effort to spread the word about my passion, I have created a video that shows you that I have NOTHING TO HIDE, Young Living has NOTHING TO HIDE and HOW I teach a Young Living Everyday Oils class. Check out the video here!

Feel Good Friday-Why are essential oils…essential?

Young Living Lavender Farm in Mona, Utah-April 20, 2016

Dear Sisters,

Today is a good day to ‘feel good.’ It marks the two year wedding anniversary of one of my son’s and his lovely bride. It would have been the 66th wedding anniversary of my in-laws. My in-laws have returned to their heavenly home during the past year. I am sure that they are celebrating a much better quality of life and love than they had here on earth. They are with the people that they love.

While living a long life is something to be admired and appreciated, one of the things that breast cancer has taught me is that quality of life trumps quantity of life any day!

My health is more important to me than any earthly possession that I own. It is essential to my happiness in more ways than one.

Which brings me to the subject of…Essential Oils. What are they and why are they…essential not just to plants but to us?

I found the following definition on the Young Living website:

Essential oils have also been used for thousands of years for cosmetic purposes, as well as for their spiritually and emotionally uplifting properties.

Primarily extracted through careful steam distillation but also through cold pressing, the purest essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they were extracted.

Modern lifestyles don’t always create optimal conditions for physical wellness. Poor diet, lack of exercise, and an overabundance of environmental toxins can leave the body unbalanced and diminish energy levels. From cleansing and weight management to supporting every system of the body, essential oils and essential oil-infused supplements can provide the targeted solutions you need to restore balance and feel your best.

In other words: I believe that essential oils ARE essential to life itself!

I believe that God created the earth and everything that is in it. One of the first things he created was plants-The Garden of Eden comes to mind. I picture it as a beautiful place thriving with life and everything that men and women need to survive and thrive.

I started using essential oils from Young Living two weeks ago today. (I had been using one of their oils for a couple of months for one of my lingering health problems.)

I felt a huge difference within a few days. Within a week, a couple of my friends noticed that ‘something was different’ too in a positive way.

As far as using essential oils to treat diseases, I have to quote from the founder of Young Living, Gary Young:

We don’t talk about disease and we don’t treat and cure disease. We are about life-style and strengthening the body through nutrition and the power of essential oils. When we do this, the body will take care of itself. We are about self-improvement and living life to the fullest. Everyone is different and no two products are the same, therefore, no two people respond to the products the same way. By simply supporting and strengthening the body with a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition, everyone can have his or her own individual experience without trying to narrow it down to a specific product for a problem.

I KNOW that the essential oils has improved my quality of life like nothing else has during the last four years. I can’t imagine my life without them-or my family. They are essential!

Enjoy your day!

Tip of the Day Tuesday! Don’t ‘get bugged’ this Summer!

cicada May 2016
17 year cicada

Dear Sisters,

Since today is the first official day of Summer, I am starting what I ‘intend’ to be a series of regular posts three times/week. Tip of the day Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday and Feel Good Friday.

My Purposes are to: Inform, share Natural alternatives (most of which will be plant-based) and Keep things simple. I will only share what has been working for me because everybody’s body is different.

Welcome to Summer! For most of us that live in the United States, that means longer day’s, warmer days and…INSECTS!

If you are like most people, you dread them! You also try to avoid putting harmful chemicals on your skin to keep them away! I will never purchase anything that has ingredients that I can not pronounce. I strive to do the same thing with whatever I eat as well.

Because of my passion for PREVENTING diseases (and any situation that might be uncomfortable), I have found a solution that is plant-based. Most of my closest friends also know that I have a black-belt in bargain-hunting, so whatever I use has to be economical too! Which is one of many reasons WHY I LOVE essential oils! (This meme mentions 21 uses. I will share more of them in future blog posts)-which is one of many reasons why I LOVE essential oils! Stay tuned dear sisters!

YL What can you do with a 15 ml bottle of essential oil

Feel Good Friday! The Oily Edition!

Dear Sisters,

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Today’s Feel Good Friday post is what I like to refer to as…The Oily Edition!

For those of you who have been following my blog, you KNOW that I am all about empowering women in all areas of their lives. You may also recall that I have been looking for a leader in a home-based business for a few months now.

I am very pleased to announce that I have found that leader and the home-based business that I have spent quite a bit of time searching for.

My Story as it pertains to Essential Oils and Reflections On P-I-N-K

A close friend of mine introduced me to essential oils at a home party a few years ago. It was about a year after my breast cancer diagnosis. I was impressed with her story and the story of a few of our friends.

At that time, I did not see how essential oils could benefit me and I had no desire to spend money on what I believed at that time were ‘over-priced solutions’ that did NOT fit in with my family’s budget.

Things change. Fast-forward to March of this year. With everything that I have been doing to improve my health, something was still missing. The only thing that I had not tried were essential oils. That is why I decided to contact my friend who had had the essential oil party. I was pretty sure that I was going to be joining her until I found out that she was not actively building her business. I took the next step: I started researching essential oils and discovered at least a dozen blog’s that were singing the praises of another essential oil company.

I liked what I saw and began searching for a leader within that company. Here is why I decided to join THAT Company:

P stands for Purity! This company is NOT an essential oil broker. This company over-see’s the entire process of making sure their oils meet the owner’s standards for purity in every way possible. They have their own farms!

100_3536           100_3510         100_3516

I stands for: Integrity. Integrity in growing, distilling, bottling, shipping and marketing. The owner puts his name on the label and for over two decades, people have come to appreciate his penchant for ethics.

N stands for: Networking. Networking is NOT the same thing as a ‘pyramid scheme.’ When I think of networking, I think of the cell phone companies that have the most cell-phone towers bringing you the best coverage when you purchase them. I think of ‘networking with like-minded’ individual’s and creating win-win’ solutions for everybody involved.

K stands for: Keeping it Simple. When most people see how easy something is to do that they used to think of as complicated actually is, they are more likely to give it a try. The individual that I joined in this company is very good at doing just that!

Make the THYME to join me for my very first Facebook Launch Party on Friday, June 10th from 8-10 p.m. EST. It is called: Introduction to Oils, Reflections On Pink: The Oily Edition.

Leadership: The Power of 3 and ESP

100_3467

Dear Sister,

Since today is St Patrick’s Day and most people are celebrating by being at parades and getting drunk-which is something that I don’t do, I decided to share some ‘reflections’ on Leadership and the power of 3 and ESP. ESP is an acronym. I usually use: PINK as an acronym, but today I wanted to take a break from that because ESP seemed more appropriate for what I want to accomplish.Besides the clover has 3 petals and I believe it is a beautiful illustration of the number 3. It also speaks to my religious beliefs and represents the Holy Trinity: The Father. The Son and The Holy Ghost. Three separate personages and one common purpose.

When you are writing a speech for Toastmasters, it is recommended that you break down your speech into three smaller points that support your main idea. The motto for Toastmasters International is: Where Leaders Are Made.

The main idea for this post is: Leadership. E stands for: Example. S stands for Sincerity and P stands for Pattern. The Power of 3 supports the Leader and their main purpose. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, our organizations have 1 President and 2 counselor’s. All of them work together.

My husband and I started researching home-based businesses many years ago. We have been involved in a few businesses…most of them with negative consequences. We had determined that we would NEVER get involved with another one. That is about to change.

I have had a few health challenges-breast cancer being one of them. I have experienced side-effects from taking a drug and most of the time I have been able to manage the side-effects with alternative remedies which, for the most part, have worked.

A close friend of mine introduced me to an alternative remedy three year’s ago that was helping her with a health challenge that we have in common, but I discarded it. I thought it would be a ‘no-brainer’ to get involved with that particular company and the person who introduced me to that remedy.

I did NOT want to join a company based on what was working for my friend especially when she was not actively building her business. She was not setting an Example that I wanted to follow.

Add to that, I decided to do some research on the company that she is involved with. I did NOT like what I found out from numerous objective sources. I DID find a company that has the same kinds of products and has a reputation for having integrity. I was immediately sold on that company.

The next thing I did was begin searching for a Leader to join. That Leader had to have a system in place for marketing their product that contained: E.S.P. The Leader that I choose to join had to set an Example and not just try to sell me a product or on the company. (I am already sold on the company.) I know what I am capable of doing and what I won’t do from prior experience.

The Leader had to be: Sincere-sincerely interested in me! The Leader had to provide me with resources that would help me duplicate what they are doing to build their business without going broke. Their story had to speak to my soul. I had to feel peace when I heard their message. (I watched one youtube video today that accomplished that). When I contacted that person, they responded to my message very quickly. They are currently looking for a mentor for me that lives closer to me than they do.

I have watched several youtube videos and visited dozens of blogs during the last two weeks and I had narrowed my search down to a couple of individuals that I thought would be good Leaders for me to follow. Both of them spoke to different parts of me, but neither one of them spoke entirely to me until today.

The Leader had to have a Pattern in place that would plant one idea in my head when they were finished with their presentation. That idea was: I CAN DO THIS! I CAN duplicate what that Leader IS doing! I am a big believer in the K-I-S philosophy: Keep It Simple. That is a topic for another time.

Some of you may know that I do counted cross-stitch. I am self-taught. Cross-stitch Patterns provide instructions as well as a list of materials that you need to complete a project. Most counted cross-stitch projects contain three steps on HOW TO complete them: Make an ‘X’ and out line the picture when you are done. The ‘X’s need to be uniform and going in the same direction. One diagonal stitch going left to right and then cross over with the other stitch right to left and then out-line when you are done. It is very easy to duplicate this pattern.

If you were to see the completed cross-stitch project above, you would probably think: I CAN’T DO THIS! But since I posted the smaller picture, you would probably think: I CAN DO THIS!

For that reason, I will share the bigger picture very soon along with the name of the company and the product that I am VERY impressed with. I still have one more assignment to complete BEFORE I sign on the dotted line. That my dear sisters IS the Power of 3 and E.S.P.!

Enjoy your evening!
