Feel Great Friday! How to Lose Weight…More or Less

ALL processed foods is addictive by design. They are loaded with sugar, fat and salt. In most cases, the processed foods taste better than the original because they have been engineered that way. It’s not your fault that processed or junk foods ARE addictive.

Dear Pinksters!

Happy Healthy New Year! Welcome to my first Feel Great Friday post of 2019! I changed it from: Feel Good Friday, because I want you to feel great this year! It is my goal to post a few simple tips every Friday that will help you get on and stay on the path to living your life…in the pink!

Because one of my passions IS disease prevention, I want to provide you with simple solutions that you can use to take action as soon as you finish reading this post so you can live the life of your dreams.

Are you sick and tired of reading the same posts year after year about how to lose weight? Are you sick and tired of NOT being able to keep your New Years Resolutions to lose weight once and for all-only to fail half-way through the month of January? Me too! Have you given up on this years resolutions? If so, you can choose to resolve to start working on them today.

I have a reputation for reading A LOT of self-help books. Most of them spew the same rhetoric about how to lose weight. I believe most of us know why we are over-weight and we know what we should be doing to lose it. We might also know that being overweight contributes to a slew of diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Since over half of the population in the United States is over-weight or obese, I don’t believe knowledge is the problem. Thanks to the education I received at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I have learned that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all-solution when it comes to losing weight, because ALL of us ARE different!

I want to keep this post simple…more or less. How do we lose weight?

Eat more foods that ARE made by plants from a farm. Preferably one that raises crops organically without toxic chemicals. The way nature intended.

Eat less processed foods that are made IN a plant.

I can’t recommend the book: The Dorito Effect by Mark Schatzker enough when it comes to this topic. The work he has done on discovering what goes on behind the scenes in the food industry is eye-opening.

Drink MORE water!

Did you know that our bodies are made up of 70% water? The ideal amount of water we should strive to drink is half our body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, it would be in your best interest to drink 80 ounces of water.

Hint: If the color of your pee is yellow, you are probably not drinking enough water.

Drink less soda.

Aside from the fact that soda is loaded with a lot of sugar, artificial colors and  flavors, it also contains ton of empty calories-which contribute to weight-gain.

When I was 38 years old, I had bladder repair surgery. My urologist told me that soda causes dehydration. Our bodies need water to survive and thrive!

Exercise your whole body more!

Find an exercise you enjoy doing. It should be fun! For those of you who are older, remember  how much you looked forward to ‘recess.’ It gave us a break from sitting, paying attention and studying. I would like to invite you to ‘try on’ a few exercises and make it a part of your day that you look forward to. Write it on your calendar.

During the Summer months, I like to ride my bike or go for walks with my husband. During the Winter months, this is more challenging. I recently discovered how much fun bouncing on a yoga ball is. I am having a ball!

I haven’t been consistent with an exercise program for several months. I feel like a kid again every time I work out. I LOVE Suzanne Deasons exercise videos. They are easy to follow, relaxing and energizing-all at the same time.

Exercise your thumbs less!

I don’t remember anybody ever complimenting me about how great my thumbs look in a pair gloves. If someone has ever complimented you about how great your thumbs look, please share in the comments. I would love to hear your story.

Today marks the seventh anniversary of one of the happiest days in my life. It is the anniversary of the day that I received the news that the bone and CT scans showed NED (no evidence of disease) The bilateral mastectomy that I had on December 16, 2011 had removed ALL seven cancer cells and they had NOT metastasized to my lymph nodes. I would NOT need radiation. My prognosis was excellent.

To celebrate, I would like to offer the first seven people who leave a comment on this post a FREE, no obligation health consultation to see for yourself how I can personally help you lose weight and get on the path to living your life…in the pink!

Thank you for reading and enjoy your day-more or less…

Tip of the Day Tuesday: Stop Procrastinating!

Dear Sisters,

As I was Pondering what tip I could share today, I visited my favorite Place to meditate: The treadmill. We are old friends and at one time, my commitment to exercising regularly helped me lose 35 pounds in 9 months. I even succeeded in keeping it off for a few years-by Keeping up with my ‘regular visits.’

What does this have to do with the subject of: Stop Procrastinating?

One of the primary purposes that I created this website was to help YOU become: Proactive in Preventing disease and Improve your over-all health and well-being.

Most people (including myself) ARE lazy! We are searching for a ‘magic Pill’ that will help us stay healthy and not encounter any diseases that could end our lives Pre-maturely.

Doctors no long claim that chemo and radiation will cure the disease. They do say that if their patients survive for 5 years-that they are cured. I have read and heard too many stories about and from people who were pronounced: No evidence of disease when they completed cancer treatments and had survived for at least 5 years only to experience a recurrence shortly after they ‘thought they were cured.’

My theory AND opinion is that the treatments did NOT cure the disease. More than likely, the patients that were involved changed their life-style and once they experienced the 5 year mark, they returned to the habits that caused their disease to happen in the first place.

I thought I was doing pretty well for a few years after my breast cancer diagnosis. Most of my alternative remedies were working, BUT I was still experiencing a ‘few Negative’ and lingering side-effects from ‘the Pill’ that I took to Prevent recurrence.

I was Introduced to essential oils by a dear sister three and a half years ago. I thought they were expensive and that I could not afford them. I suffered for three years BEFORE I became Pro-active and started researching essential oils and their benefits.

They have Improved my over-all health and well-being in a reasonably short period of time. They are Inexpensive when you factor in the fact that they have multiple uses:

The essential oil that I flavor my water with, (I have been drinking A LOT more water because it tastes Incredible!),  I also use as a toner on my face. No harsh chemicals and it works BETTER than the brand I have been using for several years.

The essential oil that I use in coconut oil as a moisturizer has been around for thousands of years and was one of the gifts given to the baby Jesus. I feel confident that it is Improving my quality of life.

The essential oil that I use as a pain-reliever, I also use to clean and disinfect my counter-tops. It is also the primary ingredient in the cleaning products from Young Living.

The same oil that purifies the air in my home, I also use to help me relax and manage my stress and Improve my well-being.

Magic pills do NOT exist and will NOT improve your quality of life in the long-run.

When we Stop Procrastinating and do the things we need to do: Keep eating a plant-based diet, exercise, manage our stress and add a few alternative remedies, like essential oils will our health and well-being: Improve!

For those of you who are looking to save money and would like to try essential oils, Young Living is offering a 10% discount until: Thursday, June 30th.

Enjoy your day!

Wellness Wednesday…

Dear Sisters,

My ‘plan’ and ‘intention‘ was to post a ‘new’ blog on Wednesday  that would help you to improve your ‘wellness,‘ BUT I ‘kept’ putting it off even though I had all day to do it yesterday…I think I put this off because there was a parade in Cleveland celebrating something about a National basketball championship that has not happened in 52 years…(I didn’t go to the parade, but I did watch it on TV and saw the pictures that ‘my friends’ posted on Facebook.)

I am posting today as a reminder to me and you that one of the purposes of ‘wellness’ is to do the small things every day that contribute to it.

What is the definition of wellness? It is: the state or condition of being in good physical and mental health.

How do we accomplish this? I believe there are as many answers as there are people. All of us have our own definition based on our own personal experiences.

I want to keep this simple:

Plan. How many of you have heard it said that when you fail to plan, you plan to fail? All of us have a purpose for living. Determine what your purpose is. I can assure you that procrastination will contribute to depression and regret.

One of my friends is fond of the quote: Our decisions determine our destiny. What I want to know is what determines the decision that we make? I believe that it is our…DESIRES!

Start with answering the question: What do I desire? Then Decide what you are going to do to accomplish it. DO your homework and then take action!

Intentionally doing the small things every day that will contribute to that. Mother Teresa is quoted as saying that we can do no great things only small things with great love.

Most of you know that one of my favorite scriptures from: The Book of Mormon is: Alma 37:6… small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.

One drop of rain will never amount to much, but if a lot of drops of rain fall all at once or over time, a puddle, flooding can occur-if it is focus or contained, a small lake will form.

Now is the best time to get started on achieving your goals and dreams. It will make a difference in your life and it could help to inspire someone to follow your example.

Keep on moving forward so you will not have any regrets. Step by step. Drop by drop. Word by word. (Assuming you are writing a book or a blog.) I guarantee that your emotional, physical and spiritual health will improve.

Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not promised so choose to live today. You never know when your last day will be. So STOP PROCRASTINATING and...

Enjoy your day!
